Arco Lamp

The Arco floor lamp, manufactured by Flos since 1962, is probably the most famous lighting furniture of the brand in the world. The original idea of the project is extremely simple: to provide a source of light suspended perpendicularly over the point to be illuminated without having to anchor it to the ceiling. This purpose was achieved through a functional and completely frictionless structure where a solid marble base rises up a metal arch that culminates with the dome in which the lamp is housed.

The essential form of the entire structure arises from the concept of giving priority to rationality and versatility: the marble base has beveled corners to prevent accidental bumps and has a circular section hole that makes it easy to move the lamp despite the weight of about 65 kg (inserting a stick or broom handle into the marble it’s enough to move it). The lamp body is made of three U-shaped telescopic steel profiles, the length of which can be adjusted according to the needs. The lamp is contained in a polished aluminum cap made of two pieces that can be moved to reach the desired angle of light. One of them is perforated to spread a light on the ceiling while avoiding overheating.

The Arco lamp has remained unchanged over the years, gaining recognition and increasing popularity until the 2007 when was legally recognized as art-work by the Tribunale di Milano, thus obtaining a particular protection of copyright .
