Maxalto represents the Made in Italy design emblem in its most refined and fancy version, due to the study of timeless shapes definable as true “modern classics”. In 1975 Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, owner of B&B Italia, acquired a small factory of chairs in the Brianza district specialized in the processing of solid wood. The entrepreneur exploited the experience of the company’s craftsmen to build Maxalto.

The name of the company is a neologism drawn from the Italian expression “Massa Alto” typically used in Veneto for objects of superb quality, “the Best”. The main distinctive character of Maxalto’s identity is wood, used to exalt the quality and attention to details of the craftsmanship production

Maxalto furnishings

Maxalto’s catalog offers a wide selection of products for the indoor furnishings, from the living area to the night area, from sofas to tables without forgetting complements. Within the sophisticated brand’s environments, Maxalto designed bookcases, chest of drawers, chairs and armchairs, refined expressions of the French bourgeois romanticism born between the two wars.

In order to offer the best quality available in the market, Maxalto began to produce elegant and refined products like the iconic Febo collection, armchairs, chairs, complements, sofas and beds, perfect for furnishing the contemporary home. To these iconic examples were included the Talamo and Alcova bed, the Kalos and Agathos armchairs, the Amoenus sofas and the innovative Xilos table signed by Antonio Citterio.

Maxalto Design

For nearly two decades, Maxalto gained a foothold in the market under the creative direction of Afra and Tobia Scarpa until 1993 when Antonio Citterio succeeded as designer and coordinator of the company. The Architect redefined the identity of Maxalto by creating a series of pieces whom share a common language of linear forms and precious materials, able to furnish a whole living space under the sign of modernity. The Clio armchair, Mida storage unit and Lutetia sofa are just some examples.
