Viggo Boesen

Viggo Boesen
Viggo Boesen (1907-1985) was a Danish architect and designer active mainly between the 30s and 40s whose works are the subject of a recent rediscovery and revaluation. It was an expression of the current of Functionalism, and more in detail of the Scandinavian “Funkis”, its peculiar Nordic interpretation that rejected its excesses of rigidity. In contrast to the cold steel aesthetic that dominated Modernism in Europe, Boesen preferred warm, soft materials and organic shapes, as in the famous Little Petra armchair (now reissued by &Tradition) which is considered his masterpiece. Another material that he loved very much was the woven wicker that can be found in the Fox armchair with which he won an award in 1936 organized by the Danish Wicker-Maker Guild and which is currently being re-proposed by the Sika Design brand.
