Adriano e Paolo Suman

Paolo Suman (1959–) is an Italian designer best known today for the Matrix project, co-designed with his father Adriano and produced by Giorgetti from the 1980s onward. A complete autodidact, Paolo Suman is an eclectic figure who resists easy categorization: a painter, sculptor, graphic designer, and photographer, he works across design and communication in a fully multidisciplinary way. The Matrix collection that brought him recognition dates back to 1984 and was conceived as a highly innovative project, radically different from Giorgetti’s production of the time, which was still firmly rooted in the tradition of fine cabinetmaking. Characterized by bold, assertive lines with a clear Postmodern influence, the Matrix furniture offered an audacious and contemporary interpretation of a timeless material such as wood. In 2018, more than twenty years later, Paolo Suman returned to collaborate with Giorgetti to launch a new exclusive creation, the Grand Tour folding armchair.
