Alessandro Scandurra
Alessandro Scandurra (1968–) is an Italian architect best known for his urban regeneration projects, in which historic buildings are preserved and adapted to contemporary needs through interventions that respect their past and the surrounding context. One example is Kering’s headquarters on Via della Spiga in Milan: a 1950s building updated by Scandurra Studio with a new ceramic façade cladding inspired by the terracotta tiles designed by artist Lucio Fontana for the neighboring building. Graduating from the Politecnico di Milano and active since 2001 with his practice Scandurra Studio Architettura (SSA), Alessandro Scandurra has also held important cultural roles over the years, including serving as scientific director of the Fondazione Portaluppi and as a curator for the Palladio Museum in Vicenza. Other noteworthy projects include the monumental Expo Gate built in Milan in front of the Castello Sforzesco for Expo 2015, and the Italian headquarters offices for insurance giant Zurich (2006–2009). In product design, he has worked with brands such as Estel, Presotto, Cini&Nils, and Panzeri.
