Edvard Kindt Larsen

Edvard Kindt Larsen
Edvard Kindt-Larsen (1901–1982) was a Danish Mid-Century designer who worked for most of his career alongside his wife, Tove (1906–1994). Both studied under Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. They married in 1937 and were active across multiple design fields from the 1930s through the 1960s: from furniture to textiles, from silverware to jewelry, they made a significant contribution to the rise of Scandinavian modernism. Many of their furnishings were presented at the annual Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition, an event organized by Kindt-Larsen himself from 1943 to 1966. The couple’s creations—now partly reissued by the brand Audo Copenhagen—were characterized by a simple, pared-down style enriched by a marked taste for contrasts between different materials. Edvard Kindt-Larsen was also an architect; among his most important projects in this field was his house in Klampenborg, which earned him the Eckersberg Medal in 1949, Denmark’s highest architectural honor.
