Francis Sultana
Francis Sultana (1973-) is a celebrated Maltese interior designer active in England. With a sumptuous and almost baroque style, he has managed to build a reputation as the “interior designer of the VIPs” thanks to projects in which he skilfully manages to dose the insertion of ethnic touches and inspirations drawn from the style of the 1920s and 1930s, strongly influenced by Art Deco masters such as Jean-Michel Frank. Passionate about art and a great collector, he is also very skilled in the skillful integration of sculptures and works within an interior design project. Born and raised on the island of Gozo, Francis Sultana moved to London at the age of nineteen and there he met David Gill, one of the most important London gallery owners in the design field and his life partner. Working for many years at the David Gill Gallery, where he is now artistic director, Francis Sultana has had the opportunity to collaborate with great names in design such as Zaha Hadid and David Chipperfield and to organize exhibitions dedicated to their creations. His personal studio, founded in 2009, is located next to the David Gill Gallery, which today also exhibits many of his limited edition furniture designs. He has also started a special collaboration with the Italian brand Bonacina 1889, often used in his projects and publisher of some of his creations. Regularly present in the AD100 list, a selection of the one hundred most important personalities in the world of design made by the magazine Architectural Digest, Francis Sultana is also very active in London's cultural life and is part of the commissions of important institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Serpentine Gallery.
