Helidon Xhixha
Helidon Xhixha (1970–) is an Albanian artist. His unmistakable works are often made of stainless steel, whose shiny, reflective surface is shaped into rippling, animated forms that give the material dynamism and tension. Frequently monumental in scale, his sculptures have been exhibited in numerous galleries both in Italy and abroad and are highly valued by collectors. Born in Durrës, his passion for sculpture was inherited from his father, also an artist, and was refined through several years of study at the Brera Academy in Milan and at Kingston University in London. Among his first works to achieve major success was a 2007 “Monument to the Prancing Horse,” inspired by Ferrari’s emblem and displayed in Maranello; another notable piece is Iceberg, created in 2015 for the Venice Biennale and installed in the lagoon. His collaborations with the design world include projects with Riva 1920, which translated the signature forms of his sculptures into the bases of certain tables, and with Fiam Italia, for which—together with architect Dante O. Benini—he created mirrors with a magma-like, shimmering surface.
