Ilse Crawford
Ilse Crawford (1962-), founder of the London-based Studioilse in 2001, is one of the most appreciated contemporary interior designers. The homes she furnishes always have a warm and comfortable style, strongly influenced by Scandinavian atmospheres, a trait perhaps inherited from her mother, the Danish artist Jill Rendall. Her father Malcolm Crawford, for many years head of the economics section of the prestigious Sunday Times, has also certainly had an important influence on Ilse's life: before dedicating herself to design, she was in fact an important journalist and founded the British edition of the magazine Elle Decoration. Her interior design projects are not limited to her native Great Britain: among her most famous creations are the Soho House in New York and the lounge at Hong Kong International Airport. Also active in product design, she has worked mainly with Scandinavian brands: everyday objects published by Ikea, Georg Jensen and Skultuna, lamps for Wästberg and Kalmar, carpets for Kasthall and Nanimarquinia and furniture for the Portuguese brand De La Espada bear her signature.
