Jerszy Seymour

Jerszy Seymour (1968–) is a German designer with an eclectic and highly creative approach. Born in Berlin to a Canadian mother and a German father, both dancers, he moved with his family to London at a young age, where he completed his entire course of studies, culminating in a degree in design from the Royal College of Art. In 1994, he relocated to Milan, then the epicenter of the international design scene, where he began to gain recognition through his independent projects, particularly in the field of special installations. Among these, The First Supper, realized in 2008 at the MAK Museum in Vienna, is especially noteworthy. For this project Seymour created what is perhaps his most famous work: the Wax Chair, a seat composed of simple wooden elements held together by wax joints. This playful and elementary method of production—visitors to the exhibition were invited to replicate it, creating ever-new objects—nevertheless resulted in a functional and structurally sound piece. In the field of industrial production, his closest and most enduring collaboration has been with the Italian company Magis, dating back to the early 2000s. He has also worked with brands such as Vitra and Alessi, as well as with renowned galleries including the Paris-based Galerie Kreo and Berlin’s Galerie CRONE, the city where he returned to live and work from 2005 onward.
