Massimo Scolari
Massimo Scolari (1969–) is an Italian architect and designer. He has had a distinguished academic career, beginning as an assistant to Aldo Rossi at the Politecnico di Milano and continuing with a professorship at IUAV University of Venice (from 1973 to 2006), alongside numerous appointments as a visiting professor at leading American universities such as Cornell University and the Yale School of Architecture. At Yale, he was the subject of a major solo exhibition in 2012, presenting his models, drawings, and paintings, in continuity with the significant installations he created for several editions of the Venice Biennale (1980, 1984, 1991, 1996, and 2004). In his professional practice, the theoretical and critical dimension has always played a central role, expressed through positions such as the directorship of the architecture series for the publisher FrancoAngeli (1973–1988) and the editorship of the journal Eidos (1989–1995). On the practical side, his work found full expression in his long-standing collaboration with Giorgetti, the refined cabinetmaking company from Brianza, with which he began working in 1989 and for which he also served as art director until 2011. The furniture designs he created—also including a collaboration with the brand Reflex—are imbued with a refined, timeless elegance, revealing the influence of his mentor Aldo Rossi, enriched by an added sense of luxury and magic. In recent years, Massimo Scolari has devoted himself primarily to painting.
