Max Huber

Max Huber
Max Huber (1919-1992) was an important Swiss graphic designer, active mainly in Italy. During his youth in his homeland he studied at the prestigious Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich and came into contact with some exponents of the renowned Swiss Graphic School, including Max Bill, who greatly influenced his work. A great lover of jazz music, he managed to bring this inspiration to his work too: his graphics were characterized by the dynamism of the compositions and by the skilful use of overlapping and photomontages artifices. His arrival in Italy dates back to 1940, when he began to collaborate as an advertising graphic designer with Studio Boggeri, an activity that he will continue as a freelancer in the post-war period, taking care, for example, of the graphics of the Einaudi editions or the new logo of La Rinascente, still in use today. He also collaborated closely with the brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, dealing with the graphic aspects of their large productions for companies such as RAI, ENI or Montecatini. In the artistic field he was instead one of the founders of the MAC, Movimento Arte Concreta, together with Gillo Dorfles and Bruno Munari. He was awarded a Compasso d'Oro in 1954. He Never dealt with actual product design, but some Poltrona Frau carpets based on his unpublished graphics are available
