Thomas Eriksson

Thomas Eriksson (1959-) is a Swedish designer known for his minimalist and dry approach to the tradition of Scandinavian design, made of clean lines and shapes with a strong symbolic impact. Eriksson loves to play with the silhouettes of his products, sometimes placing them in dialogue with their function, as in the Cross line of medicine cabinets designed for Cappellini (1992) which take the shape of a red cross, other times reducing them to a witty meta-textual game, as in the E trolley designed for Cappellini (1994) or the E-Seat sofa designed for Offecct (2002), both of which take the shape of the initial of his surname in an ideal “author’s signature” that extends to the entire object. Having launched himself internationally in the early 1990s thanks to his collaboration with Cappellini, Eriksson has also designed furniture for important Swedish brands such as Asplund and IKEA. He has also collaborated with the Swedish national airline SAS on the design of its waiting lounges in airports around the world. Since 1998 he has partnered with Björn Kusoffsky and Göran Lagerström to found the Stockholm Design Lab, a well-known communications and graphics agency that has handled important projects with several large multinationals, such as the logo for the car manufacturer Polestar or the guidelines for the visual identity of the Nobel Prize.
