Cassina
FF.Spine Bookshelf
Cassina's FF. Spine bookcase was originally designed for the "1858" furniture collection at the Giustini/Stagetti Gallery. It was Formafantasma's first furniture project for Cassina, an object that expresses aesthetic rigor but also a balanced aesthetic sensibility aimed at combining design with a simpler, more domestic expression. This bookcase is a true tribute to wood, highlighting not only its materiality but also its natural imperfections, leaving the grain exposed. The structural simplicity creates strength and unity throughout the piece, creating an object that easily fits into any domestic or non-domestic context.

Founded in 1927 by the brothers Cesare and Umberto in the heart of Brianza furniture, Cassina is one of the long-lived Made in Italy industrial design companies. From the early ‘30s, Cassina brothers identified the strong demand for home furnishings and interpreted in a far-sighted way the renewed taste of the new emerging classes. From this intuition, Cassina started a real revolution in the indoor furnishings design. Since then, the company has been pursuing a path of research and innovation, involving prestigious designers and architects in the study of new furnishings models. In the last few years the collaboration with Gio Ponti has begun. Thanks to this partnership were born the 646 chair, known as Leggera, and the subsequent model 699 or Superleggera.Read more
Designed by
Formafantasma
Formafantasma is a design studio made up of Italians Andrea Trimarchi (1980-) and Simone Farresin (1983-) with offices in Rotterdam and Milan. Fellow students at both the ISIA Design Institute in Florence and the Design Academy in Eindhoven (the city where they still reside), the two founded Formafantasma in 2009 to carry forward an idea of "engaged design", attentive to social and ecological issues that characterize today's landscape. A rigorous and uncompromising path, carried forward above all through shows and performances and culminating in the personal exhibition "Cambi" at the Serpentine Gallery in London, which deals with an analysis of the environmental impact of the production chain of the wood. The same language is used consistently by Formafantasma also for the installations and research carried out for major brands such as Hermès, Bulgari and Prada, a feature that earned them the victory of the prestigious Wallpaper Design Award as Designer of the Year 2021. In the field of product design boast many limited series creations exhibited in important galleries, but more recently they have also begun to collaborate with well-known brands such as Flos, Cassina, Natuzzi Italia, Roll&Hill and others.
