Cassina's Hooptical mirror, designed by Bethan Laura Wood, reinterprets the everyday object with a vibrant and dramatic language. The London-based designer plays with colors, transparencies, and reflections, transforming the mirrored surface into a dynamic element that interacts with light and multiplies the space. The frame, with circular or oval geometries, is enriched with vibrant and sophisticated finishes that enhance its decorative character. Each version becomes a small optical universe capable of changing appearance depending on the viewing angle. Functional and poetic, Hooptical is both a mirror and a work of domestic art. Its distinctive feature is the presence of glass rings arranged on different levels, modifying the perception, lending it three-dimensionality and character.

Founded in 1927 by the brothers Cesare and Umberto in the heart of Brianza furniture, Cassina is one of the long-lived Made in Italy industrial design companies. From the early ‘30s, Cassina brothers identified the strong demand for home furnishings and interpreted in a far-sighted way the renewed taste of the new emerging classes. From this intuition, Cassina started a real revolution in the indoor furnishings design. Since then, the company has been pursuing a path of research and innovation, involving prestigious designers and architects in the study of new furnishings models. In the last few years the collaboration with Gio Ponti has begun. Thanks to this partnership were born the 646 chair, known as Leggera, and the subsequent model 699 or Superleggera.Read more

Bethan Laura Wood
Bethan Laura Wood (1983–) is a British designer. Eclectic and exuberant both in her work and in her personal style, she loves experimenting with vivid colors and an exuberant abundance of decorative elements and kaleidoscopic, asymmetric patterns. She belongs to a type of designer for whom two-dimensional drawing is central, expressed through imaginative compositions on furniture surfaces, textiles, rugs, and many other applications—all marked by a highly recognizable maximalist approach. A student of Jürgen Bey and Martino Gamper at London’s Royal College of Art, she founded her own design studio in 2009, focusing on unique pieces and limited editions such as the fanciful Meisen and Caterpillar storage furniture. Since 2011, several of her works have been presented by the Milanese gallery Nilufar, which helped increase her visibility and establish her as one of the most “on-trend” designers on the market. In the following years, Bethan Laura Wood has collaborated with some of the Italian companies most attentive to experimental design, bringing her work into the catalogues of brands such as Cassina, cc-tapis, Bitossi Ceramiche, Poltronova, and Moroso. In 2025 came her definitive consecration with a solo exhibition entirely dedicated to her work, hosted for a full year at the Design Museum in London.Read more
