The beauty of this object consists precisely in its studied simplicity combined with the intrinsic richness that characterizes it and that makes it perfect for any type of environment, from the most to the least formal. David/Nicolas is a well-regarded contemporary design studio founded by Lebanese designers David Raffoul and Nicolas Moussallem, both trained at the Politecnico di Milano. Established in Beirut in 2011, the studio gained its first major international recognition in 2014, when it was named by The New York Times as one of the three “rising stars” of Milan Design Week. A regular presence in the AD100—the annual selection by Architectural Digest of the 100 most influential figures in the design world—David/Nicolas is noted for its distinctive interpretation of the retro aesthetic that has shaped much of contemporary design in recent years. Many of their creations feature a refined exploration of geometric surface decoration, ranging from classic fluting in wood panels and marble to more elaborate treatments. This approach is equally evident in their interior design projects, which are often defined by striking wooden boiseries with richly detailed ornamentation. The studio operates both in the field of limited-edition collectible design—collaborating with two of the world’s most prestigious design galleries, Nilufar and Carpenters Workshop Gallery—and in industrial production, creating furniture in partnership with brands such as Gallotti & Radice, Tacchini, cc-tapis, Moooi, and Pierre Frey, as well as objects and accessories for companies including Vista Alegre and Editions Milano.Read more
