The Stemlite floor lamp by Gubi, designed by Bill Curry in 1962, is one of the earliest examples of a “total look lamp,” where the base and diffuser form a single continuous volume. Its soft silhouette, inspired by flower chalices, blends organic shapes with modernist rigor. The opaline globe emits a uniform, enveloping light, while the slender stem adds balance and visual lightness. Reinterpreted by Gubi with contemporary materials, Stemlite preserves Curry’s pioneering spirit, becoming a timeless icon of American design.
