A classic of modern furniture. Ptolomeo is a self-standing bookcase with a simple and rigorous design, essential to make room for the main guest for whom it was conceived: books. Ptolomeo eliminates the superfluous by being essential for a single steel column to which thin steel shelves are joined. The shelves disappear as the column fills with books. Since its inception in 2004 it has established itself as an icon of the design of the sector, then structured in different heights fixed on the solid base in stainless steel or lacquered metal coordinated with the structure specially designed to ensure its stability.

Experimentation and invention are the constants of the identity of Opinion Ciatti, a florentine brand full of imagination and always ready to play with ideas and materials. Two in particular are the key figures of the company: Bruno Rainaldi, long-time art director of the brand and author of some of the brand's most famous pieces, and the young entrepreneur Lapo Ciatti, heir to a historic furniture dynasty and talented designer. The crown jewel of the brand's production is the imitated and never equaled Ptolomeo bookcase, deservedly awarded with a Compasso d'Oro.Read more

Bruno Rainaldi
Bruno Rainaldi (1952–2011), a brilliant self-taught designer, moved through the world of design in many different roles, from product design to entrepreneurship. After gaining recognition as director of the emerging High-Tech showroom in Milan, located on Corso di Porta Ticinese, he went on to work alongside two of the most influential design entrepreneurs of the time: first Maddalena De Padova, for whom he worked at the historic Corso Venezia showroom in Milan, and later Enrico Baleri, with whom he became a partner at Baleri Associati. In the mid-1980s, Rainaldi set up his own practice, founding Studio Rari, through which he developed products for brands such as MDF Italia, Alivar, Slamp, Terzani, BBB Bonacina, and many others. His most significant collaboration, however, was with the Ciatti family, with whom he created some of his best-known projects. This partnership led to his becoming a shareholder in 2006 with the founding of the brand Opinion Ciatti, of which Rainaldi served as president and artistic director. Today, he is primarily remembered for his Ptolomeo bookcase, presented in 2003 at the Milanese showroom Entratalibera—founded the previous year by Rainaldi in partnership with Marta Giardini—and awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 2004.Read more
