Villa in Courmayeur
An exceptional ski resort, a picturesque mountain village, and a must-stop destination at the foot of Mont Blanc, Courmayeur has always been a magnet for mountaineering enthusiasts. Renowned for the SkyWay Monte Bianco cable car, it offers breathtaking views of the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa peaks. La Saxe is an ancient hamlet of Courmayeur, famous for its stone and wooden houses and distinctive architecture that make it an ideal tourist destination — as well as a prestigious holiday retreat, as in the case of this villa, for which Salvioni Design Solutions curated the entire interior design project.
The original project began with the restoration of the property, which was transformed from a rustic dwelling into a renovated home designed to improve not only its structure but also its energy efficiency. Every intervention respected the harmony of the surrounding landscape while adding a touch of modernity and aesthetic refinement. Salvioni Design Solutions oversaw the interior design project, following not only the client’s wishes but also a precise vision that made each space complete and coherent — a true continuum where the eye encounters recurring visual and sensory elements. Materials, finishes, and colors were selected according to a unified concept that considered both the context and the potential of each chosen design brand.
This villa is not a simple mountain home, even though the surrounding landscape and its interior layout may evoke that idea. It is rather a visual experiment — a perfect fusion of architectural elements that together create a prototype of a “modern chalet,” complete with alpine references yet free from the more rustic interpretations of the genre. This result was made possible through the careful selection process conducted by Salvioni Design Solutions and the client himself, a design and vintage furniture enthusiast.
The villa consists of two separate apartments, furnished with a similar aesthetic yet distinguished by specific details. The first, located on the upper floor, is more modern and daring, as seen in the living area dominated by the Pack sofa by Edra. This impressive seating arrangement allows one to enjoy the warmth of the fireplace while watching a movie on TV. Nearby stands a striking marble table by Agape, surrounded by De Padova leather chairs with a light wood finish that reflects the brightness of the surrounding walls. The dining area is completed by a large kitchen in a soft grey finish.
The Lais lamp by Baxter, positioned above the marble table, brings warmth to the space through its distinctive golden finish, echoed by the Cicladi side tables by Edra.
Moving toward the sleeping area, one can notice a transition to warmer tones and natural hues—browns and earth shades that make each space feel more welcoming and harmonious. The Poliform wardrobes in the small study/walk-in closet feature cognac and leather nuances, echoed by the Indochine armchair by Cassina and the Pa’ 1947 wooden console. The lighting point is provided by the Pascal floor lamp by Oluce.
The rugs featured in both apartments add an oriental touch to the setting and represent a personal contribution from the client.
The master bedroom unfolds in a pleasing alternation of grey and blue tones, featured in the Capitol Complex chairs by Cassina and enhanced by metallic accents found in the Classicon side table and the Laura Meroni bedside tables. The Cab bed by Cassina is illuminated by Atollo lamps in a grey finish, which, together with the U. lamp by Catellani&Smith, add a refined touch of brightness to the room.
The second bedroom echoes the same color palette but adds a touch of modernity with the Blendy bed and side tables by De Padova, illuminated by AJ table lamps by Louis Poulsen in a black finish.
Each bedroom is equipped with its own private bathroom, plus a third guest bathroom by antoniolupi. The lighting is by DCW Éditions, while the corridor fixtures are by De Castelli.
The second apartment, located on the ground floor, aligns with the aesthetic and stylistic principles of the first, though the furnishing choices reflect a more understated style. In the spacious living room, the Standard sofa by Edra is paired with Liquid side tables by Baxter. Nearby stands the ’95 table by De Padova accompanied by Donzelletta chairs, illuminated by a chandelier from Catellani&Smith.
The bedroom and study area feature a Poltrona Frau bed and desk in leather with dove-grey finishes, echoed by the large Poliform wall wardrobe. Stock ’n Roll bedside tables by Poltrona Frau and Atollo lamps in a gold finish complete the composition, offering an example of understated aesthetic consistency and multi-level stylistic sophistication.
The villa extends into two additional distinctive spaces: a large home cinema with an adjoining private wellness area, and a spacious terrace with a greenhouse-style ceiling—ideal in both winter and summer for enjoying the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
For the cinema area, a warm palette dominated by gold and purple was chosen. The B&B Italia sofa placed here creates a perfect comfort corner, further enhanced by the built-in kitchenette behind it, designed for preparing quick meals and refreshing drinks. From this elegant home cinema, one can access a wellness area furnished with pieces by Bonacina 1889, complete with a Turkish bath, sauna, and whirlpool tub. A practical guest bathroom and a final relaxation room were also added, allowing for rest and comfort without the need to return upstairs.
The ceiling lighting is by 101 Copenhagen.
Last but not least, the large bioclimatic greenhouse on the top floor is dominated by the unmistakable Extrasoft sofa by Living Divani in grey, accompanied by two Cuero armchairs and a Fortuny lamp by Pallucco. This evocative glass structure serves as an ideal habitat for a variety of plants that thrive here throughout the year. The large windows offer a 360° view of the starry sky and the surrounding mountains.
