Billiani 1911 is a historic Italian design brand specializing in the production of wooden chairs, armchairs, and furniture accessories. Wood is the undisputed protagonist of the brand’s collections, with traditional craftsmanship passed down through generations to preserve the exceptional quality and meticulous details that have contributed to its success. The collections stand out for their intricate high-end cabinetmaking techniques and the numerous textile details featured in each product.

Billiani history

The company was founded in 1911 in Manzano, a small town in the Friuli region, at the time located close to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Founder Luigi Billiani initially opened a workshop specializing in the production of steam-bent wooden chairs, hand-woven and hand-finished, laying the foundations for what would become the renowned Chair District after the Second World War.

Over the years, this small business grew into an industrial hub. In the 1990s, under the leadership of Luigi Billiani and Veronik Romanutti, the company developed a distinctive and dynamic identity, combining master craftsmanship with a more contemporary approach to design.

The celebration of solid wood and the subtraction of material have become defining elements of Billiani’s collections. Among these, the Edizioni Billiani line deserves particular mention: a range of furnishings characterized by fine cabinetmaking techniques, with natural joinery and curves that become decorative elements in their own right.

The concept behind this new collection is that a wooden chair should not be perceived as merely rustic, but rather as a sculptural and lightweight work of art, capable of fitting seamlessly into any setting, from the most sophisticated to the most understated.

Nel tempo, l’azienda ha saputo stringere numerose collaborazioni con designer di tutto il mondo fra cui Emilio Nanni, Michael Geldmacher, Constance Guisset e Philippe Bestenheider, ampliando e migliorando il proprio catalogo.

Importante è citare il contributo di Cristina Celestino che nel 2019 ha assunto la direzione artistica dell’azienda, firmando un profondo rinnovamento il cui principale obiettivo era far dialogare l’anima contract dell’azienda con una dimensione più intima e domestica. Le sue collezioni (Frisée, Corolla e Raquette) hanno consacrato l’immagine di un brand dal gusto senza tempo, capace di cogliere gli influssi più contemporanei senza perdere il proprio carattere.
