Kymo
A rug dressed in haute couture
Kymo is a German company specialising in high-quality designer rugs with a contemporary aesthetic. Founded in 2005, it stands out in the industry for its ability to give rugs a distinctive identity, imbuing them with character and a powerful expressive presence of their own. By trademarking the term Floorwear®, Kymo emphasises the affinity between designer rugs and haute couture, where a rug is more than just an object: it becomes a bespoke design element, a “garment” worn by the floor, taking centre stage in the space.
Kymo rugs are the result of meticulous design research, combining the avant-garde approach of German design with traditional craftsmanship. Each piece is entirely hand-knotted or hand-tufted by master artisans, becoming a truly valuable work of craftsmanship.
The materials used are always of the highest quality and include Chinese mulberry silk, New Zealand wool and South African mohair. The yarns are carefully hand-spun and dyed to ensure an impeccable finish.
Kymo organises its production into signature, indoor and outdoor collections, including The Mashup, The Shags, The Outdoors, The Fabrics and The Loft, alongside the renowned The Finest, an exclusive ultra-luxury line created for connoisseurs. The latter focuses on preserving the purest traditions of craftsmanship and using precious natural materials. Each collection stands out for its distinctive style, materials and resulting aesthetic, offering a unique design statement suited to different settings, tastes and interior design projects.
The Shags collection is particularly noteworthy, with its long-pile rugs resembling luxurious furs rather than conventional yarn-based designs. This collection reinterprets the concept of the 1970s shaggy rug, elevating it through the use of innovative materials and fine natural fibres. The craftsmanship behind these designs enhances both their softness and their fur-like aesthetic, with a vegan alternative also available.
