Founded in 1942 by Ankjær Andreasen under the name Jysk Siv og Halmkunst (“Jutland Reed and Straw Craft”), the company initially focused on the production of small wicker items such as baskets, lampshades, plant holders, Christmas decorations, and everyday household accessories. In 1951, the business relocated to the Danish island of Funen and adopted the name Sika, a contraction of the Danish words Siv (reed) and Kurve (baskets). The name was also inspired by the Japanese Sika deer, a symbol of elegance and lightness. During this period, the company expanded into the production of rattan furniture, including the iconic Renoir Hanging Chair.
