Copper and the House – 6th International Design Contest

Salvioni Milano Durini opened its doors to host the exclusive award ceremony of the 6th International Design Contest dedicated to copper.

The event, “Copper and the House”, was promoted by the Istituto Europeo del Rame in collaboration with the European Copper Institute in order to support and stimulate young talents to approach this ancient material and its manufacturing techniques.

The initiative included the possibility to apply within two categories of competition, one for students and the other dedicated to professionals. This sixth edition’s novelty was the introduction in the competition of an independent section by invitation only, that saw seven of the most interesting Italian designers and design studios participating to the contest with thematic projects.

Giorgio Bonaguro, Carlo Contin, Lorenzo Damiani, Gumdesign, Giulio Iacchetti, LucidiPevere and Donata Paruccini presented evocative products that investigates and exploites the infinite potential of this material.

The experimental aspect of copper utilization was a key criterion for the judging committee – composed by Philippe Bestenheider, Diego Grandi and Marco Romanelli – in the selection of the winning projects enumerated in the following list:

– Category: Professionals
1st Prize – Fabrizio Bendazzoli with the “CuToys” project.
2nd Prize – Sofie Christina di Bartolomeo and Maria Chiara Polverini with “Ramen”.

Special mention: Prisca Renoux with “Heatit”, Mauro Bergamaschi and Matteo Briccola with “Spaghetto”.

– Category: Students
1st Prize – Cyprien de Hautecloque and Laura Thulièvre with the “Sentoba” project of the ENSAAMA institute in Paris.

Special mention: Eve Garandeau with “Memori” from the Nantes Atlantique School of Design, Lina Venström with “Miseria e Nobiltà” from the IED of Rome.

The special plaque has been awarded to the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art (ENSAAMA) of Paris for having addressed consistently the theme of the contest.

The projects will be on show at Salvioni Milano Durini until the end of June.

Salvioni would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants.
