Coronado Sofa
The Coronado sofa was born in 1966 from the aesthetic research carried out by Afra and Tobia Scarpa aimed at combining the iron frame with the revolutionary technology of cold-molded polyurethane padding. This new material ensured comfort and resistance at the highest levels, giving voice to a way of furnishing that took into account not only aesthetics but also practicality. The elegance of Coronado resides in the balance of volumes and proportions capable of anticipating the fashions that would follow him. Available in different choices of fabrics and leathers, Coronado lends itself to prestigious living environments, where classic and modern are combined in a summary of extreme beauty.

B&B Italia's strongest ability is to combine creative ideas with design skills, which over the years have led the company to win four Golden Compasses. B&B Italia’s fulcrum is the Research and Development Centre (CR&S), a research laboratory dedicated to the study of the most innovative materials and the industrialization of production processes. The purpose of CR&S is to give life to the most groundbreaking projects of some of the major international designers.
Founded in the late 60's by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli and Cesare Cassina with the name of C&B Italia, the company has disrupted the furnishing industry's rules with a revolutionary industry vision. The ability to turn traditional furnishings production into industrial designs proves today, like yesterday, the strength of the company.Read more
Designed by
Afra Scarpa
Afra Bianchin Scarpa (1937-2011) was the life and work partner of Tobia Scarpa, of whom she has co-signed many of his most important projects. The couple met while studying architecture at the IUAV in Venice, where they both attended the lessons of the famous Franco Albini. Tobia was the son of another great architect, Carlo Scarpa, and soon managed to obtain important design commissions for major brands, always involving his inseparable companion in the work. Although not all products signed by Tobia officially bear the signature of Afra, theirs must be considered an all-round partnership in which professional merits must be equally shared, following the model of the most famous couple that the history of design remembers: Charles & Ray Eames. They have been the protagonists of a great season of success in Italian design, working for top-tier brands such as B&B Italia, Cassina and Molteni & C., and have won several international awards including a Compasso d'Oro in 1970.Read more
