All design history books begin with the same name: Thonet. In fact, thanks to the research made by the German cabinet maker Michael Thonet on the bending of wood, the industrial production of furniture began. In 1842, Thonet was invited by Chancellor Metternich himself to continue his activity in Vienna, and it was precisely in the capital of the Hapsburg Empire that he founded the Gebrüder Thonet Vienna (GTV) involving his five sons. Designed by
Cristian Mohaded
Cristiàn Mohaded (1980-) is one of the most famous contemporary Argentine designers. Active between Buenos Aires and Milan, it is in France that he became internationally known: first in 2013, when his Twist #2 chair – designed together with the architect Ricardo Blanco – became the first product by an Argentine designer to be included in the permanent collection of the “Musée Les Arts Décoratifs” in Paris, then in 2015, when he was selected among seven emerging American talents awarded at Maison&Objet. Also in France, Mohaded managed to establish a strong partnership with Roche Bobois, a furniture brand that has firmly placed its bets on him, putting many of the pieces he designed into production. He is also very active in the design of unique pieces and collectibles, often bearing a very “Latin” traditional soul right from the peculiar use of traditional materials and artisanal workmanship. Other brands he has collaborated with include the Italian cc-tapis and Loro Piana, the Austrian Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, the Argentine Nosten and Interieur Forma, the Dutch Moooi and the Danish New Works.Read more
