Tom Dixon
Pylon Armchair
Price € 8.070,00
Tom Dixon's Pylon Chair dates back to some experiments carried out by the designer in the 1990s in his atelier, in which he set himself the goal of creating the lightest metal seat of all time. The result is an armchair "stripped" and reduced to its skeleton, which in its thin and slender shapes recalls a high voltage pylon. A conceptual experiment of inexhaustible success, the Pylon Chair was designed using then pioneering computer technologies that give it almost the appearance of a polygonal model brought into the real world. It has been industrially produced by Cappellini since 1992, but today Tom Dixon has brought production back home and is now presented under his eponymous brand.

Tom Dixon (1959-) is one of the most famous and appreciated contemporary British designers. Born in Tunisia and moved to the UK at an early age, he did a variety of jobs in his youth, from nightclub promoter to bassist in a punk band. Passionate about motorcycles, he learned the techniques of welding in order to carry out the repairs himself, and from there he became interested in Ron Arad's design experiments with metal, which brought him closer to the London underground art and design circles. Like Arad, his first works centered around the use of metallic materials and were based on a post-industrial and recycled aesthetic. At the beginning of the 90s he was noticed by Giulio Cappellini, who gave him the opportunity to compete with series production and make himself known by the great international audience. Since 1998 he has been called to the management of Habitat, the largest English furniture chain, and promotes a radical renewal of the brand's image. Starting from 2002 he decided to go on his own to be able to convey his aesthetics without compromise, founding and leading to success a brand that bears his name - Tom Dixon Ltd. - mainly dedicated to the production of lamps and objects.Read more
