Venini
Sidone Vase
Price € 425.00
Sidone is part of a series of vases designed by Alessandro Mendini and produced by Venini for the first time in the 1990s. The structure of Sidone is made of glass, blown and hand-crafted by master glassmakers, and has a peculiar glass thread applied hot on the two narrowest parts of the vase. The resulting shape is classic and clean and lends itself very well to diversified uses within the home context. Its beauty lies in its ability to replicate the shapes most commonly associated with the “vase” and propose them in a more modern and evocative way. The Sidone collection includes numerous elements differentiated by color, so as to be able to reconcile the most diverse tastes for those who wish to use them as furnishing elements for their home.

Venini is probably the most famous Murano glassmaker of the world: a result reached not even in a century of life, thanks to the idea of introducing in the blown glass world the collaborations with the artistic avant-garde and the design. It was a real revolution: in contrast with the stylistic exuberance that was characterizing the classic Venetian production, Venini's creations had presented themselves with sober and rigorous lines, lending them also to the development of new and surprising manufacturing techniques. Venini's vases are nowadays style icons, precious such as jewels, handed down from generation to generation, in a range of prices that makes them accessible to everybody. The Venini lamps and chandeliers, true architectures of light with a strong authorial signature, are really appreciated.Read more
Designed by
Alessandro Mendini
Alessandro Mendini (1931-2019) was one of the leading figures of the movement which, starting from the 1970s, led to a complete renewal of Italian design. Intellectual and refined, he directs the magazines Casabella, Modo and Domus, subjecting the world of Italian design to a severe critical analysis, opposing the dictates of a rigid functionalism and advocating a return to decoration. Noisy and colorful, his often self-produced and limited series works are closer to the world of art and constitute some of the peaks of the Radical Design movement. Guided by concepts such as "re-design", which reinterprets the creations of the past with a postmodern eye, and "banal design", which finds inspiration in everyday objects, he is the master of an entire generation of designers contest season. Since 1976, he is one of the founders of the successful collective of Studio Alchimia, together with Alessandro Guerriero. Until the 1980s, he begins to make series productions, conquered by enlightened entrepreneurs such as Aurelio Zanotta and Alberto Alessi. He also works, among others, with brands such as Cappellini, Venini, Kartell, Artemide, Magis, Swatch and Bisazza. He is an appreciated architect, and an author of unforgettable projects such as the Groninger Museum in Groningen.Read more
