The Merwyn chair was designed in 2018 by the German designer Sebastian Herkner for Wittmann. Its silhouette is inspired by the rounded shape of macarons, the famous French pastries, which served as the starting point for Herkner’s creative concept. The backrest and armrests wrap around the circular seat in a single, elegant continuous curve, creating a nest-like form in which the body can comfortably settle and relax. A distinctive feature of the design is the refined hand-crafted piping that runs along the entire perimeter of the seat, creating a subtle contrast in both color and texture with the surrounding upholstery. Merwyn is an ideal choice for those seeking comfort and relaxation, as beneath its slender and understated appearance lies a pocket-spring cushion that provides exceptional seating comfort. The chair is available both with traditional solid wood legs and with a metal pedestal base equipped with a 360-degree swivel mechanism, allowing it to adapt to a variety of settings and functional requirements.

Wittmann was founded in 1896 as a company specializing in the production of saddles, later transforming into a furniture manufacturer. In 1950, it changed its identity, becoming a full-fledged manufacturer of home goods. Its catalog included handmade chairs, sofas, beds, and mattresses. Over time, Wittmann expanded its business, always keeping management in the hands of the original family but expanding the quality and strength of its brand to become a true international player.Read more

Sebastian Herkner
Sebastian Herkner (1981-) is one of the most relevant figures of young contemporary German design. His fresh and innovative approach, deep knowledge of materials and skilful use of bright colours have led him to develop a style of great international appeal. Some of his most famous products leverage on the evocative nuances of coloured glass, such as the Bell coffee table made for ClassiCon and the Oda lamp designed for Pulpo, which have already risen to the status of true icons. Others, such as the chairs designed for Moroso and the outdoor furniture by Dedon, leverage the harmonious play of proportions and delicate curves. All these qualities make Herkner a designer in great demand by the biggest brands around the world: he has also worked for brands such as Wittmann, Emu, Pedrali, Rosenthal, Fritz Hansen, Ligne Roset, Ames, Sancal and many others.Read more
