Imm Cologne 2019 – Knoll celebrates the Bauhaus trend

Every year the Imm Cologne fair is a regular appointment with the world of design; an opportunity where old and new trends meet, inspiring the taste of the whole world.

This 2019 saw, among the many novelties presented, the entry of the Knoll brand that, for the occasion, presented an exhibition designed by OMA and totally dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus current.

Outcome of the impeccable artistic direction of the OMA architecture firm, founded by the architects Rem Koolhaas, Elia Zenghelis, Madelon Vriesendorp and Zoe Zenghelis, the installation presented some designs of Piero Lissoni with the reworking of the furniture pieces of Ludwig Mies van de Rohe, a master of twentieth century architecture.

Divided into four spaces, each area has been set up to reflect the style and taste of some of Mies’ most famous architectural works: the house in Krefld (1927); the Weissenhorf quarter in Stuttgart (1927); the Barcelona Expo pavilion (1929); the Tugendhat house (1930). Moving from one space to another, visitors were given the opportunity to introduce themselves in a sequence of striking combinations of architecture and furniture design, the result of Piero Lissoni’s genius and Mies van der Rohe’s MR and Barcelona collections.

To honor the historic relationship between Knoll and the Bauhaustrend, the brand has created a special “Bauhaus Edition” from the MR collection and the Barcelona chair by Mies van de Rohe. The MR collection presents new fabrics and leathers selections, while the Barcelona chair will be issued in a certified and limited number of 365 units, one for each day of the year 2019.
