Milano Penthouse

The interior design project by Flaviano Capriotti is located on the top floor of a building by BBPR and takes shape from the idea of renovating a penthouse with bourgeois charm, complete with a panoramic terrace and private pool.

The inspiration stems from a careful interpretation of BBPR’s architectural thinking, particularly their interest in the theme of circulation and in the construction of space as a dynamic experience. Interwoven with this foundation are references to the world of contemporary art, such as the spatial and volumetric tensions of Richard Serra and the pursuit of essentiality and formal purity characteristic of Constantin Brancusi, both explicitly present during the preliminary design phase.

The apartment is organized around a curvilinear central volume that becomes the true focal point of the space, subtly articulating the living and sleeping areas. Circulation between the different rooms is the very essence of the project, while sightlines and movement unfold in a fluid and continuous way.

The interiors are defined by a sober and restrained language, with pure surfaces interconnected through related materials that create a balanced atmosphere. The living area features a spacious lounge from which the kitchen and adjoining dining area can be accessed. Separating these two elements is a curvilinear volume housing a laundry room, a small bar area, a guest bathroom, and the staircase leading to the upper floor. On the opposite side are two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, as well as the master suite complete with walk-in wardrobe and private bathroom.

The choice of materials is meticulous, aimed at emphasizing the dialogue between spaces and enhancing their sculptural strength. Continuous stone and terrazzo surfaces in warm, neutral tones are paired with dark wood paneling, lending a distinct rhythm to the interiors. The wood highlights the sculptural volumes, while burnished metal details and textile surfaces contribute to an intimate and quiet atmosphere.

The culminating element of the project is the expansive rooftop terrace, conceived as a true auxiliary living space. Outdoor furnishings, the swimming pool, pathways, and the perimeter green areas shape a suspended landscape above the city, offering evocative views over the Milan skyline.
