B&B Italia’s strongest ability is to combine creative ideas with design skills, which over the years have led the company to win four Golden Compasses. B&B Italia’s fulcrum is the Research and Development Centre (CR&S), a research laboratory dedicated to the study of the most innovative materials and the industrialization of production processes. The purpose of CR&S is to give life to the most groundbreaking projects of some of the major international designers.

Founded in the late 60’s by Piero Ambrogio Busnelli and Cesare Cassina with the name of C&B Italia, the company has disrupted the furnishing industry’s rules with a revolutionary industry vision. The ability to turn traditional furnishings production into industrial designs proves today, like yesterday, the strength of the company.

B&B Italia furnishings

The use of cold-molded polyurethane is a distinctive feature of B&B Italia’s production. Since its inception, the company has produced pieces considered today historical icons of the international design. In those years, come to life the sofa Le Bambole of Mario Bellini, Afra’s and Tobia Scarpa’s Coronado and the Up series of Gaetano Pesce. In the ‘80s, B&B Italia started the collaboration with Antonio Citterio, thanks to whom came to life the Diesis, Charles and Harry sofas.

Thereafter, the company enlarged the proposal for home environments, in particular wardrobes and bookcases, with the Pab, Flat.C and Backstage models. The product experimentation joined the expansion of production sites: Afra and Tobia Scarpa designed a new building for production, while a young Renzo Piano projected the company’s new headquarters, the prototype of Center Pompidou.

B&B Italia design

Wide is the list of famous industry names who collaborated with the company and its CR&S: masters like Achille Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti and Paolo Piva, the latest Vincent Van Duysen, Naoto Fukasawa (with his armchair Grande Papilio) and the archi star Zaha Hadid, author of the Moon System sculpture-sofa.

Another important partnership was with the Spanish Designer Patricia Urquiola, who signed the Husk series, available in a wide range of product categories: beds, various types of indoor and outdoor chairs, swivel armchairs and large sofas. Emblem of the Made in Italy quality design are the Tufty Time sofa and the Bend Sofa.

Salvioni is one of the official dealer of B&B Italia for over thirty years. The showroom Salvioni of Inverigo, besides hosting a wide selection of brand furnishings, is located a few kilometers away from the B&B Italia’s corporate showroom in Novedrate, in the hinterland of Milan. B&B Italia collections are also exhibited in the Salvioni Lugano showroom. Come and visit us also in our showroom of Milan, via Durini 3, close to the official flagship store of B&B Italia.
