House MD

Located in a neoclassical villa from the 18th century owned by the Brivio Counts, this apartment is surrounded by a beautiful park of centuries-old trees that enrich its charm. The floor plan of over two hundred and fifty square meters is divided into four levels plus a mezzanine, a context to which MMA Projects has dedicated two years of work to study a fine alchemy between minimalism and intimacy.
The style chosen is elegant and refined, lively in alternating design elements with ad hoc solutions designed to respect the owner’s taste. An example of this is the option of the kitchen floor in oak parquet laid in a herringbone pattern in three different colors with brass inserts contrasting with the material HD surface cementino used throughout the rest of the house but with different tones depending on the living or sleeping areas.
LIVING and DINING
The protagonist of this space is the boiserie that culminates with a French frieze, surrounded by fabric scarves that descend from the high ceiling connecting the living room to the upper mezzanine, where the kitchen has been placed. The texture and nuances of the fabric recall the herringbone pattern of the parquet.
The area is illuminated by a custom-made Verpan chandelier, a linking element for the two living and dining areas that thus further graft one into the other, creating a sensorial continuum.
The kitchen space was designed to be functional and at the same time elegant, with a single custom-made central element to which precious materials such as black oil-stained cedar and brushed brass have been added. A note of elegance is evident in the addition of some accessories by Felicia Ferrone.
The Calacatta marble used for the top of the oval Saarinen table is wrapped in the sugar paper color of the Platner chairs by Knoll.
FIRST FLOOR
The change of level is underlined by a gradient of colors from light gray to white, a shade that dominates the sleeping area. This space was designed to be ethereal and fresh, enlivened by the brass of the handles and the Jacquard fabric upholstery where the foliage motif in bronze and gray colors has been woven directly into the fabric.
Entering the master bedroom, you are greeted by the vivid whiteness of the walls, floor, bed and bedside tables, interrupted only by the wardrobe with a brass structure and leather upholstery. Peculiar is the choice to replace the doors with a heavy sage green curtain fabric, enriched with tone-on-tone trimmings.
The private bathroom features an elegant bathroom cabinet made of Bianco Thassos marble with an associated Agape bathtub in white solid stone, illuminated by a Liberty-style chandelier with adjustable light.
ATTIC FLOOR
Going up the elegant white staircase that changes color again to dark gray halfway up the flight, you reach the attic floor dedicated to the son of the owners of the house. The furniture is essential and finely orchestrated between a Gervasoni bed in Blue Jeans fabric and the Sacco armchair by Zanotta in red, accompanied by a simple and functional desk.
Once again, the play of colors desired by MMA Projects is essential to give tone and personality to the entire floor, an aesthetic touch that is also evident inside the private bathroom where the shades of light blue, blue jeans, dark gray and light gray dominate, created with Cover, a product by HD Surface for the shower wall.
The bathroom cabinet by Ceramica Cielo in anthracite color matches the choice of taps, while the round mirror breaks the play of straight lines of the color that dominates.
